Who is the Fells Point Development Corporation?

It is the new name of our community’s Main Street Affiliation, a campaign initiated in 2003 by the Fells Point Business Associations and members of our community. FPDC has been created to proactively generate the revitalization of Fells Point’s commercial and urban renewal districts. Our mission to promote, preserve and beautify the commercial district for businesses and residents alike.

Like neighborhoods nationwide, we are experiencing growing pains associated with the economic, political and social pressures of residential expansion and commercial / urban revitalization. Since these pressures affect the entire community, it is essential that we work together and carefully plan for the future.

That is where the Main Street Program can help. The national Main Street program’s directive is to provide assistance to communities like ours in planning, designing and managing their physical environment, specifically, vacant buildings, street-scapes, public facilities and open spaces. They then help the community identify proven solutions for the growth-related problems we are now facing. As a Main Street Affiliate, Fells Point businesses and residents alike gain a powerful resource and advocate. And that is something worth embracing.


FPDC Early Objectives

Our first objective as a Main Street Affiliate is to Fells Point’s decrease commercial vacancies and increase tourism. To accomplish this, the Fells Point Development Corporation needed to raise $26,000 by the end of 2004. This provided the match required in grant given to us by the Main Street program and also helped us launch a few key initiatives, including:

   * Providing incentives to individuals to improve facades
   * Define the commercial district for our visitors with decorative markers or signage
   * Create strategies to increasing commercial investment in vacant buildings
   * Implement a local and national publicity campaign to educate visitors about Fells Points’ businesses, attractions and history.

These are exciting times in Fells Point and we invite you to take part in this renaissance of Fells Point! To succeed, we need you! The Fells Point Development Corporation is seeking members, volunteers and, of course, tax-deductible donations.With your help, we can make Fells Point realize its full potential!
